"LET GET OUT OF THESE WET CLOTHES AND INTO A DRY MARTINI" (42"x60 2009)
An Artist Member of the Phoenix Gallery for over 40 years, Cecily Barth Firestein is a painter who combines methodologies of printmaking and collage while working within the frame work of abstraction. Over the past six decades she bravely resisted joining any particular artistic movement, opting instead to synthesize, hence cultivating her own unique language. The collage elements shape the narrative route of the painting, constantly probing for and disseminating trans-historical narratives.
Ms. Firestein's mono types are included in many corporate and museum collections, including the Corcoran, Delaware Art Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Freud Museum in Vienna and London, and Zimmerli Art Museum.

PAMELA FLYNN: CONSIDERING HARM
BENEFIT EXHIBITION FOR NYAGV
NEW YORK AGAINST GUN VIOLANCE

NEW YORK, Artist Pamela Flynn and New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Education Fund are working together to bring awareness to gun violence in NY. The Phoenix Gallery is pleased to present a benefit exhibition by Pamela Flynn titled Considering Harm. Pamela Flynn will be donating a percentage of proceeds from the sale of the artwork to New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Education Fund.
Considering Harm is a new body of work that will be exhibited for the first time at The Phoenix Gallery. The exhibit consists of 33 mixed media pieces that are contemplative works on gun violence. Each work is exhibited with text that refers to an incident involving gun violence in NY. The combined impact of the work and text creates an atmosphere of contemplative tension. The viewer is forced to Consider Harm.
Pamela Flynn is a mixed media artist who deals with social and cultural issues in her work. She is a recipient of the 2006 Puffin Foundation Grant for her work. Road Shrines: A Peripheral Blur.
New Yorkers Against Gun Violence Education Fund is dedicated to reducing gun violence through education and advocacy. NYAGV has educated thousands of New Yorkers about the dangers of illegal guns. For eight years NYAGV Ed Fund has run after-school programs for hundreds of young people who live in New York City communities flooded by illegal guns.
The artist and representatives from NYAGV Ed Fund will be at the opening May 24th from 6:00-8:00 PM.
