Seeking Artists
From its origins as a prestigious artist co-operative in New York, celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2008, the Phoenix Gallery has evolved into a community-oriented center for all the arts. Founded in 1958, during the "Tenth Street" days, the gallery now has artist-members from around the world, all dedicated to the highest level of professionalism. Each brings his/her own unique style and vision to the diverse group that makes up the Phoenix Gallery. These artists, all carefully chosen for membership by Phoenix artist peers, work in all media and create art that encompasses and reflects wide cultural and ethnic interests.
The Phoenix Gallery is seeking 5 new artist members.
Please see artist opportunities for information about the different types of artists memberships.

HARRIET SOBIE GOLDSTEIN
SERIES IN GOLD
RECEPTION: THURSDAY OCTOBER 8, 6-8 PM
GOLD I Acrylic/Canvas 40” x 30”

integrating metallic gold as a color into paintings. In these non-objective paintings, the color metallic gold is a metaphor for
society’s interest in the accumulation and the display of excessive wealth. As an object, gold is the ultimate precious metal
having both political and societal impact. When I create art, I am aware of the world at large and this interest is continually
Harriet Sobie Goldstein was raised in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from Hunter College, where she majored in Art. While a
student at Hunter, Ms. Goldstein took classes from the artist Tony Smith, who praised her use of color. Ms. Goldstein is a
versatile artist, who loves creating art whether as a printmaker or painter. Her paintings include figurative works and
landscapes, but she always returns to her love of abstract painting.
Ms. Goldstein’s artwork has been exhibited at the Phoenix Gallery in New York City and others in both New York and New
Jersey. Ms. Goldstein has begun to show her artwork in international settings and two of her abstract paintings were selected
and exhibited in Shanghai, China. Having been cited for excellence many times, she received the Medal of Honor for a
woodcut at the 2014 Annual Exhibition of the National Association of Women Artists. Presently, Ms. Goldstein serves on the
Executive Board of The Phoenix Gallery and is President of SALUTE to Women in the Arts.
