CHRISTA TOOLE: "Level Zero"

Painting, Mixed Media

Mars in Retreat: 12" x 12"
Oil, thread, tape, wax, pencil on canvas

Level zero characterizes the current stage of the evolution of the universe. Of the five stages of maturity, some scientists believe we have not even reached the first level. Christa Toole's work explores the subjects of space, energy and transformation. Using paint, thread, tape, wax and other materials in her work, the work evokes the concept of the transmutation of energy. What can at once refer to the micro levels of biology can also represent the macro levels of space and both of their infinite complexities. The subject matter simultaneously highlights the similarities in form of the two and underscores the persistent yet intricate laws of the universe. Energy is a constant in all levels. Energy moves from one realm into another, its properties may change but the force remains invariable.

MARCELLA ANNA STASA:"IN THIS SMALL VISION"

Post 4

Marcella Anna Stasa makes art from the seemingly mundane materials she collects from her surroundings in Upton, MA

Milkweed pods, dried leaves and grasses, rusted metal and animal bones are among the items that I bring to the studio to incorporate into my work. I find the beauty in death and decay and present them more as eloquent than melancholy. These fragments of decay can be perceived as grisly, frightening, mysterious and all the while exceptionally lovely. Combined in unlikely ways they have an ethereal feel to them.
