ARTIST STATEMENT
I’m a Photographer interested in portraying the Plane in between the memories and material reality, mind and body. This Horizon of Known Space and Unknown Beyond is where my photographic interest exists, explores, experiments and expands. Making images that focus on cultural manifestations through various forms of regular geometric shapes and organic shapes residing side by side in an architectural archetype, I observe the gesture reflecting on the surfaces that manifest complex and abstract forms of self awareness/ consciousness. In this process how light wraps the known familiar and intimate spaces play the pivotal role. And the shadows light up the questions about the characters and people living there. I respond to these queries with contemplation and silence which attract me in the midst of chaotic exterior reality. The truth of turning all these stories to an unfinished poetry right after the moment of making, draws me to analyse the possibilities of Photography Medium beyond a mere documentation/ representation. Crafting with the concept of modern electronic music-making ethics and how notes form a meaning in the entire bar filled with chords one after another flowing to the next bar or movement is a suggestion I like to convey in my recent making. Though each note carries its history and the life of the musician, the entirety of the composition creates the narrative. Be it a question or a response or in between or all these threes.

I'm Raktimava (Riju) Ghosh Dastidar a Kolkata and Mumbai based Photographer studying MFA in Visual Studies (concentration in Photography) in Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Minneapolis, Minnesota. USA. I've been studying metaphysics of gestures, forms and their concerns with exterior and interior self in visual medium (Photography) since 2018 and elaborately working on the abstract in large canvas since my first semester in college. Being an enthusiast, critic, practitioner of modern improvisational Music (instrumental), my vision is drawn from the dissonant sound, passed through binary channels forming soundscape as pixel palette; opening up an immense possibilities of interpretations. My visuals thus represent the dissonance and orientation of disorientation and deconstruction of memories and their syncopated rhythmic structures.
