"Legal Vows"
I believe in love and I believe in marriage. And, as such, I have created this body of work in celebration of same-sex marriages. I must confess to have had no real feeling about the need for these legal marriages until 9/11. Compounding the horror of the day, I was stricken when I learned that many couples, some of who were life partners, were denied any benefits as surviving mates. In some cases unknowing or unfeeling parents did not even include these loved ones in funeral arrangements not to mention the many who were evicted from their homes and questioned about possessions. So, in celebration of the legalization of same sex marriages in those States in our nation with a conscience, I have created these mixed media vignettes. My Barbies and Kens are a happy and legal lot.
This exhibit will feature Pam's photographs of her vignettes. www.pamader-art.com |
Cecily Barth Firestein
Cecily Barth Firestein is an 83-year-old painter, printmaker, collagist and art teacher. She has 50 one person exhibitions in her resume. Her work has been displayed in museums, embassies and galleries as well as in a myriad of public, corporate and private collections in the United States and abroad since the 1950’s.
The artist has something personal to say and she paints it with unusual skill in her provocative, composed arrangements: always on paper. Firestein initiates each painting as an abstract monotypes using oil-based printing inks. When the ink has dried she addresses the paper, covering the transparent layers using rags and brushes to disperse these mediums. Luxurious color, vigorous brushwork and drawing are this artist’s forte. A penchant for surprising juxtapositions in her compositions and an unbounded imagination as well as a healthy sense of humor lead this artist's one of a kind pictures. www.cecilybarthfirestein.com |

Laura Westby
My paintings are architectonic in presentation and manner. In concept they deal with landscape in an inertial existence dealing with volume, color and form. All the components of the painting are conceived to elicit an emotional response along with a spatial relativity.
I try not to show my work through photographs because they are not pictures of a subject but an experience that is designed to be a painting. Please join us on Thursday November 3 to meet Laura at the gallery’s reception from 6-8 PM. www.laurawestby.com Phoenix Gallery Project SpacePark McGinty (Estate)
