ARTIST STATEMENT
Artist Statement for Suicide Prevention:
The body of work that is presented is dedicated to Suicide Prevention. This is a subject I am extremely passionate about because I am a suicide survivor.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. On average, 44,965 Americans die from suicide every year. A quarter of a million Americans survive suicide (which I am included in).
With more knowledge, empathy and compassion we can heal each other every minute of every day. We can all be someone’s support. We can choose to be there for each other, and most importantly, love each other. This is the mission for this project.

Jordan Merlino is a Queer Paper-Cut Designer who graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2015. Jordan discovered their passion for paper-cut in the summer of 2017 when they created a series dedicated to crystals. Jordan has expanded the subject matter to animals, plants and sacred geometry. Jordan is also dedicated to creating designs to advocate suicide prevention. Jordan’s work has been showcased at yoga studios, MICA Portfolios and Gurl Museum Day. They live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
