I have found myself -- as have many artists this past year -- realizing that the constraints of "sequestering" are a catalyst pushing us into unknown levels of searching. There now seems to be a new clarity to our task.
For me, there is an urgency to continue to use whatever means I can -- the brushing and washing of paint, the folding and crumpling of paper, the discovering of evocative power in a single word -- to wrest meaning and light from the world which hangs so hard around us.
Gretl Bauer lives and works in New York City and Sag Harbor, N.Y.
Her work -- which is in many collections around the country -- was recently included in Lichtundfire's "Quantum Sphere" exhibition, which ran through January, 2021, in New York City.
