INVITATIONAL EXHIBITION
Vian Borchert
ARTIST STATEMENT
I describe my art as a form of visual poetry. The artwork represents my aesthetic and sense of identity along with themes on belonging while emphasizing my love for structure, strong lines and geometric shapes. Coming from academia and an architect at heart, I define my mind as a structured one with love for composition with a multitude of shapes. Naturally these elements appear in my work, especially in the work that has architectural elements at its core. In a gist, the works go after the law of contiguity which is considered the keystone to most scientific theories of space, memory, and knowledge. Furthermore the cityscape paintings depict my love for the NYC skyline executed in my signature expressionist painterly style. Hence, my artistic vision is one of hope and big dreams for the future. The artwork reflects my dreams and inspirations. In my cityscapes, there is an emphasis on tall buildings and looking up. Thus, the cityscapes are a celebration of tall landmarks not only to present their beauty through a poetic and an artistic touch, but to also stress on the importance of staying hopeful and dreaming big.
