These bud images are studies of nature/form and one’s tactile/visual response to nature.  They are flower forms unfolding, layers revealing and pink flowing to intense red.   The visual forms are soft, the colors are intense and the ceramic material is hard – like a rock- strong and unyielding.

Harriet Sobie Goldstein
"From Hollywood to Hallendale"
 
This exhibit was inspired by my love of the beaches and vistas near my home in Hollywood, Florida.  There is a struggle between development and nature which is playing out in this area.  These paintings of swamps and beaches were recently exhibited at the Anne Kolb Nature Center, which is honoring and preserving the natural wonders remaining.

Harriet Sobie Goldstein grew up in Brooklyn, NY.  She resides in New Jersey and spends winters in Hollywood, Florida.  She majored in art at Hunter College in NYC and continued her art education at art schools and colleges in the New York Metro area.   Harriet serves on the Board of Directors of the Phoenix Gallery.  Ms. Goldstein is a prolific artist with varied interests.  She paints seascapes, landscapes, abstracts, as well as people and pets.  Her forte is the use of color to heighten emotional intensity. Harriet has exhibited her artwork extensively throughout the tri-state area and in Florida.

My art is always intended as a poetical ephemeral visionary navigation of my senses, using colors to express the conductive energy of the characters of my visual experiences. The fluid properties of the paint reveals to me a glimpse of a shape, a form that I can capture and let arise with my creative painterly carving compositions.

I explore the life and influences of my characters, and their dialogues in an almost non gravitational environment, bringing forward an eclectic perception as inner medium. 

The technique that I use in my process most of the time is called sgraffito (to paint, scratch or carve on plaster or clay.)  I paint and carve on clay board and wood panels. On my art works I apply paint (fluid acrylics and or oil bars) on pressed caoline clay boards (smooth or textured) white or black and wood panels.  I carve away color, but sometimes I add even more where I have carved.  Being so flexible and original to me, this becomes a vehicle in my process that gives me freedom to approach my art work from different creative angles.  I use tools, painter knives, and pottery, Asian and regular brushes.  I also started to find an expressive way with the new digital media combined with traditional media. 

This is Leonardo’s first exhibit at The Phoenix Gallery.   Please welcome him at the reception on March 30
