I’ve been reading and watching science fiction since I was a child in the 1960’s.  As we continue to experience extreme climate changes, global warming and social upheaval I find comfort and inspiration in the optimism of certain works in the genre. Star Trek's vision revered exploration, equality, diversity, sharing and aspirations of individual betterment as opposed to conquest, warfare, intolerance, greed and selfishness.  
May the better nature of humanity prevail.

Dongze Huo

Dongze Huo’s paintings are composed of dyes and mixed media and laden with abstract elements that are rooted in Chinese philosophy.

Huo explores uncertainty and chance and lets his mediums take their own course, abandoning all control. In his process Huo follows the wisdom of allowing things to happen, which is a belief found in Taoist philosophy.

"The Afterimage Series"

The afterimage series is about the indelible images of memories and emotions. It all begins with curiosity to make a permanent image of afterimage that looks like a piece of a strong photograph.

In numerous images between my conscious mind and unconscious mind, the afterimage series was reinterpreted arbitrarily.  I interpreted haunted images into afterimages with concise lines, simple shapes, and color surfaces. The afterimage series was transformed into new images with my unique colors and shapes. 
This is spontaneous creation but is not impulsive decision. It maintains orderly movement. My intent is to portray the colors of afterimage with a drastic use of vivid colors. These colors are very visible remaining inside of my head rather than original image.  

I do not intend to make the viewers understanding that what's the real image or what’s the afterimage as any other explanation. It is because afterimages become completely new images. I just leave it to their imagination. And I induce the viewers to make new afterimage and new story on their own with their subjective experience and sensitivity.
